I couldn't resist purchasing a Dragon Fruit, which we rarely see for sale. It was disconcerting however to lay it out at home and to find that it resembled a red fish!! Had I been sold a ring in?

Good Lord Irene, what an unusual looking object. If you hadn't told me I wouldn't have known whether it was animal, mineral or vegetable! I have heard of them, but never ever seen one. The flesh is very unusual too, many, many seeds by the looks. Do you eat it raw, cooked and is it savoury or sweet and what does it taste like? (I've decided I WANT ONE!)

You eat it raw. Not as watery as Watermelon, but very similar. You can also get ones that have a red inner flesh (as well as these white ones). The ones in Thailand are so sweet and beautiful, even in smoothies. However normally eaten raw. This one purchased here in New Zealand, was nice but fairly bland - I guess from being in cold storage etc etc etc. But when I see them I try and at least have one, ,as I love them so much :) xxxxx
