Popcorn and Havana having a bit of a battle due to weight issues

August 27th Kitchen Things and Italiano

A wonderful Italian themed evening at Kitchen Things in Hamilton, where we were treated to cooking demonstrations - Italian of course.

Here are Marco (Head Chef) and Rachel (Competent Chef) from Caffe Centrale demonstrating their usually kept behind the scenes Gnocchi.

Sorry for the blurry photo of you Marco - the food was so wonderful to taste that I trembled in delight

he thought to be a Snowman would be a good idea
until he saw me approach with my potato peeler

August 23rd EasyGo Thai Catering

We shared a wonderful Thai dinner where the restaurant comes to you. They provide the food, the chef, the dishes and best of all clean up afterwards. The food was as good as anything we have eaten in Thailand (not watered down, adjusted for western tongues, Thai food). So a night with good food and good company with Helen, Darrell, Chris, Judy, Lynette, Ian and of course George  & myself

Let me introduce Chef Yam and Nick his kitchen aide

Gaeng keow waan gai (chicken green curry)

Kai pad med ma muang (chicken and cashews) held by Ian, who for some reason takes a lot of photos with his eyes closed! At least this time there were no zzzzz's accompanying the photo - I hope!

Larb moo (pork)

Kai pad med ma muang (chicken and cashews) again
And with apologies to the Tom Yum Goong - which missed out on the photo opportunity. Not due to anything wrong with it - quite the opposite actually. It was that good it was down the hatches before these photos were taken. And I forgot to mention the starters, which also disappeared quickly
Tod man phla (Thai Fish Cakes) and Dumplings - prawn and mushroom

Want to know more about Yam and Nick's wonderful endeavour. Go to www.thaicatering.co.nz

August 21st Head Shot

No it's not a mop - well yes it is I guess. A mop of hair, as in mine
(psst this is a sign of desparation when I resort to this as a photo of the day!)

August 20th The Good Wife

I have my days. Actually it's George's turn to provide supper at the weekly Te Reo course he attends. So 'The Good Wife' stepped up to the plate for her dearly beloved. It's such a rare occurrence, I had to take a photo as evidence!

August 19th A Jaffle Maker

Yes, that is what they were called. Let me present the Breville Jaffle Maker - circa mid 1970s?  Still going strong and actually I think a much better performer than the current Sandwich Presses

August 18th Sunday Siesta

Sitting on my favourite outdoor nest
Watching George garden, which he does the best
This is where I perch myself
I guess you could say I am on the shelf
I am just a dog with the odd funny habit
Thank God I think I am a cat, and not a rabbit!

August 17th www.foodlovers.co.nz

We had a small gathering of forum contributors today at Helen Jackson's home - who is the owner of the Foodlovers.co.nz website http://www.foodlovers.co.nz/.  It was such a lovely day, with lots of conversation and laughter that it wasn't until everyone had practically left and the wonderful food on offer was gone, that I realised I hadn't taken a photo, which would have befitted the day.

Oh well, the left over Pavlova will have to do. A fine testament to fine food and fine company, when all the food is gone.

Thanks to Helen and Ed for their hospitality, Ian and Lynette for allowing me to hitch a ride, Dawn, Lyn, Stephanie, Susan, Lorna and Heather.

August 12th When Ms Shank Met Mr Cooker

This has to be a marriage made in heaven. Initially old friends Red Onion, Garlic, Thyme & Rosemary decided it was time to get together

Things didn't seem right, so they asked Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar to join in, add some colour to the gathering, and then Paprika spiced things up

They had their friendship covered and blanketed Ms Shank with love for a good few hours

Red, Garlic et al had to leave after a while - and Ms Shank found herself alone and browning. Things really heated up for her then

The friends eventually reunited and this is when Ms Lamb Shank met Mr Slow Cooker. They endured quite a long, slow and smouldering relationship which lasted about a good 10 hours!

However, like all good things it came to an end - Ms Shank left Mr Cooker and decided Mr Mash looked better

At first it looked like this was the one. However things took a turn at the dinner table and tasty Ms Shank and even Mr Mash were no more!

August 10th The Moment When....

You get home from the supermarket, unpack your groceries and WTF!!  For your Beef Stir Fry you purchased Steak & Kidney. Never mind, there will be one happy dog in the house for a few nights and a bit less meat in the stir fry.

July 31st These Are The Chickens...

That didn't quite make it across the road. A moment's silence please.

But they tasted damned good - it was an easy cooking night and I made Coke Chicken (not the snorting coke hmph!)
