August 17th www.foodlovers.co.nz

We had a small gathering of forum contributors today at Helen Jackson's home - who is the owner of the Foodlovers.co.nz website http://www.foodlovers.co.nz/.  It was such a lovely day, with lots of conversation and laughter that it wasn't until everyone had practically left and the wonderful food on offer was gone, that I realised I hadn't taken a photo, which would have befitted the day.

Oh well, the left over Pavlova will have to do. A fine testament to fine food and fine company, when all the food is gone.

Thanks to Helen and Ed for their hospitality, Ian and Lynette for allowing me to hitch a ride, Dawn, Lyn, Stephanie, Susan, Lorna and Heather.

  1. Lovely photo Irene! Great company, great food! I'm still dreaming about the food and floating on a cloud thinking of Heather's pavlova! Right now I have a spinach pie in the oven just like Helen made as her's was so very nice (and sooo was her fish pie), but I've probably toned down the richness a little. D.

    1. Thank you D!! Do you know if the Spinach Pie is on her website? I know the fish pie is, but must see if I can source the Spinach Pie, it was beautiful.

And so lovely to meet you after all these years, and your lovely hubby :) xxxx

  2. I looked for the Spinach Pie on F/lovers but couldn't find it so Googled and came up with Annabel Langbein's Sensational Spinach Tart which I'd say is pretty similar to Helen's tart. It's in Annabel's book Free Range in the City which I have. (Hope this link turns out OK) http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:xK-aOEAUwYEJ:www.annabel-langbein.com/recipes/sensational-spinach-tart/391/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=nz
I left out the pesto, spring onions, & horseradish sauce simply because I didn't have any. I also substituted the cream cheese which I didn't have with ricotta (which I did have) combined with some left over sour cream and the result was delicious just the same. It makes two huge tarts so halve the recipe if you only want to make one, but it freezes well. Simply delish!

Thanks for your kind words Irene! I can certainly say the same - it was fab to meet both you and your lovely sister Lynette - both names that go way, way back in the realms of foodlovers for me. It was a great afternoon. D. xxxx
