February 27th to 29th Birthday Celebrations

What a wonderful birthday weekend, and especially with being a Leap Year birthday, I have waited four years for this.

I had a party at home on Saturday evening (who wants to party on a week night to celebrate their birthday?) I decided a garden party would allow us sufficient room for guests. Also to be on the safe side, I paid for an advance weather prediction from a NZ identity, who was spot on for our wedding day weather prediction 10 years ago, so I thought I could count on him.  He predicted a lovely hot and fine day. So the invites went out. The day dawned and there were ominous clouds. As the evening proceeded, it precipitated down. Which it did the 4 years previous, and the 4 years previous to that. I think I can safely predict that in 2020, for the weekend and day of February 29th, it will rain in copious amounts - no matter what any weatherman decides!

I am usually not lost for words, but this time I am. My 15th/60th Birthday will forever be in my memory. The people that travelled from near and far to share this celebration with me. To spend this time with both family and friends. The poems I received, which were penned for me, the gifts (and I said no gifts, and each and every gift I received will always be a keepsake and remind me of this birthday), the flowers and most importantly the love I received.

I think everyone get's the picture of how special this birthday was. Culminating in the actual day, which was supposed to start with a balloon ride (the Weather gods decided otherwise), and instead I was spoilt with not only a lunch out but also a dinner out, which included Oysters and Prosecco.

Here's to another 4 years, and thank you to all for making my 15th/60th birthday so special.

  1. HAPPY 15TH/60TH BIRTHDAY IRENE!!!!!! All the very best for the next ten years! It's lovely to have a birthday to remember!

My 70th was 25th Feb. (I knew it was close to yours) and we took our kids and grandies out for dinner that night and they presented us with return air tickets to New Caledonia, so now plotting and planning our trip part of which will be driving up west coast, then across to east coast, then up and around the top and down the west coast back to Noumea over several days.

Now I am going to try concentrating on staying alive for the next 10 years to get to 80 ha ha!!
    Very best wishes Irene. xxxx

  2. Irene, thank you for your birthday wishes........ I did intend getting back to you well before now also to say thank you so much for offering to research links for us. Managed to do everything on line, but initially saw sooooo much info I had to leave it for a few days before I went back to it. However, all went well with planning and internet bookings. Head off on Monday and have our road trip planned and booked, so it will be very interesting, especially neither of us know any French, but have a wee pocket language booklet which might get us out of trouble?!!!! Many thanks, once again. D. xxxxx

    1. Dawn, you will find many do speak English. Make sure you get yourself to a local supermarket and stock up on plenty of Baguettes. Also take the opportunity to purchase some vanilla sticks to bring home and some lovely New Caledonian ground coffee!! Have a wonderful, wonderful time and Au Revoir xxx
